What could be better than a quality service call done right? It’s DUCTZ of North Pinellas for your indoor air quality.

DUCTZ

DUCTZ of North Pinellas is a company, which I am sure you have already guessed, deals solely with ducts

So what could be better than a quality service call done right, especially when it comes to indoor air quality?  How about when they say: “You do not need my services.  NO CHARGE.”

pullin hairA few months ago, I noticed a funk in the air.  OMG what is that smell, certainly not indoor air quality?  Can’t place what it is or where it is coming from either.  It seems to be everywhere and picks up when the HVAC kicks on.  As a slightly neurotic person, it can not be ignored, it must be investigated.  But due to a rather rude introduction to my car’s airbag system, my sense of smell is not quite what it used to be.  Apparently me crashing at 50+ mph with an airbag deploying at 100+ mph rattled my noggin a bit, but it saved my life and I walked away, so no gripes here.  Time to call in family/friends, to discover if a.) it is time to revoke my 3 day pass from Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital or b.) a funk run amok at my domicile.   And being neurotic, I had to, of course, get the opinion of multiple relatives/friends, to confirm the other confirmations, but Idigress.   It is in fact determined that a funk run amok in my abode, and its source can not be determined.

freaked outIt is at this point my brother reminds me of when he bought his house down here, and during the Inspection massive, in size and quantity, mushrooms were found in his ductwork. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!  Fungus Amongus?! YIKES!

What’s a homeowner to do to get indoor air quality?  OMG, it is time to call in the superstars at DUCTZ of North Pinellas to rescue the day.  They were prompt in scheduling an appointment the very next day, and showed up exactly on time.  The technician spoke with me for a bit to gain whatever insight he could, but I believe soon realized he was talking to someone on a 3 day pass from Bellevue, and that he might learn more by physically inspecting things.  I breathe a sigh of relief, because I thought he might just run for his truck, but he makes for the entry to my house, to discover why I do not have indoor air quality.

freaked outHouse looked good, time to check the Air Handler and main duct line feeding the house.  OMG he is cutting into my beautiful square box that is only a couple of years old as I had both units replaced when I purchased, didn’t really have a choice, if I wanted a/c in Florida that is.  So I manage to spread my fingers enough to see the technician rip out a piece of insulation he just cut, and if it was an inch by an inch it was a mile by a mile. OH the humanity!  He than climbs up his ladder, gets into the ducts and starts crawling around every duct line in the house to inspect them.   Actually I made that last part up.  He pokes his head in with a flashlight and informs me, I have relatively new ductwork not in need of any maintenance.  WHAT?

DUCTZ of North Pinellas tells me I DO NOT NEED THEIR SERVICES, at this point in time.   NO CHARGE.  I said I am a Realtor and I need your business card so I can give it out to everyone I know.  It is such a pleasure in this day and age.  He writes up his report, hands it to me, and says have a nice day, and leaves.  I stand at the end of the driveway, waving as I watch him drive off, in quite the happy mood for having not been taken advantage of.  When It hits me.  Like Mohammed Ali hit me in the solar plexis.  THE SMELL, THE SMELL REMAINS.

To be continued, until than for all your indoor air quality needs  try

Asbestos: it is not a problem of the past

As the saying goes, “There's nothing half as pleasant as coming home again.” With its location in the southeastern part of the United States, Florida is known for its tropical weather, sandy beaches, tourist and culture hub. With so many incredible and diverse features, what potential home buyer would not take the opportunity to call this state their home?

The journey to purchasing a home is an enjoyable time in one’s life. But it is one that will bring many additional responsibilities. Having the assistance of a reliable and experienced Florida real estate agent can make all of the difference during this process.

Asbestos

Many older homes built prior to 1980 may still harvest obsolete and corrosive building materials which can create health concerns. Living in the 21st century, there is a renewed importance towards environmental sustainability, green construction and lowering your carbon footprint. Many realtors have understood this important aspect of our lives and can greatly assist clients in achieving a green home.

Asbestos is the name given for a group of fibrous minerals that were mined for their qualities as fire resistant, insulation and high durability. Often appearing in roof shingles, popcorn ceilings, piping and insulation, asbestos became one of the most popular building applications of the 20th century.

Healthy Tips If you locate any suspected asbestos in the home, most experts suggest leaving it un-disturbed until a home inspector can examine your property, take evaluations and determine the safest course of action. Sometimes the best action is no action at all. Disturbing asbestos in good condition may cause its fibers to be released into the air. Exposure to damaged airborne asbestos fibers can lead to the development of a severe lung ailment known as mesothelioma.

Age of diagnosis and cigarette smoking are factors that impact how a patient responds to a mesothelioma treatment. Removal of asbestos in public facilities, workplaces and homes should be performed by licensed abatement contractors as long as the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) are not violated. They must wear protective equipment such as masks and gloves to avoid any exposure. The materials should be removed in as large pieces as possible and places in disposable bags.

Green Alternatives Healthier and Efficient Implementing Eco-friendly methods of building can have positive environmental, health and economic benefits. These include: Conservation of natural resources, enhance air quality, protect Eco systems, energy sustainability, increase property value, improve quality of life, improvement of pulmonary and cardiac health, Reduction of waste. If asbestos is removed, green forms of insulation should be used as replacements. These include the use implementation of recycled building materials such as lcynene foam, cotton fiber and cellulose. These alternatives not only allow for a healthy and safe home, but can bring down annual energy costs. For example, the use of cotton fiber foam has demonstrated to reduce energy costs by 25 % per year. As education and technology of green sustainable practices increase, the numbers will continue to rise.
