September 2009 Unemployment numbers out 1,000,000 Floridians can not find a job
Unemployment Rates rose 0.2% in September to 11%, a 34 year record rate. Just like the housing Crisis we are getting hit harder than most places, being above the national unemployment average by 1.2 percentage points. And if you are reading this, you probably live in one of the 3 Counties my Real Estate Company covers.
- Pasco Counties numbers rose 0.3 percentage points since August to 12.5%
- Pinellas County rose 0.2 percentage points since August to 11.2%
- But Hernando County (a.k.a. Little Long Island) is bearing the runt of it. Unemployment here has risen by 0.4 percentage points to 13.8%
On a personal note, after my 21 year old son moved back in with me, he had trouble finding a job a few months back. He even went to the day labor places, but they told him he would need to show up 5 hours before they opened, essentially 2am if he wanted any hopes of actually getting a job. Thankfully in less than a month he was gainfully employed at a Little Caesars Pizza in Holiday, Florida
Now for some good news. Thursday a report showed $334.6 Million in federal contracts were awarded to Florida. for the full story, check out BayNews9
